Hardy Australian natives and screening plants that bring texture, shade and wildlife home.
Herbs + veggie seedlings
Start small on a windowsill or fill a garden bed with fresh food for the family. Organic seeds too, for spring through winter sowing.
Pots + planters
Indoor and outdoor pots, hanging baskets, terracotta, ceramics and half wine barrels. Raised corrugated beds and self-watering Vegepods, plus custom planter boxes made to order.
Soil, mulch + care
Potting mixes, fertilisers, pest control, watering cans, mulch and pebbles for the next job. Organic options throughout, and worm farm kits that handle around 6kg of scraps a week.
Water + wildlife
Birdbaths, water features, aquatic plants, bird houses, bee homes and micro bat houses.
Fruit + bush tucker
Citrus, stone fruit, figs, olives and berries, alongside the more unusual — babaco, sapote, wampi, ginkgo, even coffee and tea. Native edibles run to finger lime, macadamia, lilly pilly, lemon myrtle, native plum, native mint, native spinach and midyim berry.
Backyard chickens
Day-old chicks through to laying hens at around 24 weeks. Breeds we often have in include Australorp, Isa Brown, White Leghorn and Silkie. Bring a big box to get them home safely.
Fresh eggs + feed
Free-range eggs from the flock, in fresh each Thursday. Small $6, medium $7, large $8 a dozen, or a tray of 30 for around $16. Chicken and duck feed too, from Laucke Mills through to organic Country Heritage, plus hay, lucerne and straw.
Trailer hire
Got a bigger job on? Take the trailer. Good for mulch, soil and the larger plants that will not go in a boot. $100 a day, $60 for a half day, or $120 with a load of organic soil.

What the Northern Beaches
asks of a garden.
Salt wind, sandstone and a long warm season make this a particular place to garden. Here is what we find matters most, and what we would tell you at the bench.
Ask us about your patchSalt wind is the first thing to plan for
Coastal wind carries salt, and salt burns soft new growth before anything else shows stress. Plants with small, tough, waxy or hairy leaves shrug it off, while large soft leaves brown at the edges.
- Plant a hardy screening layer first, then shelter the softer things behind it.
- Westringia, correa and coastal banksia are long-standing choices for that front line.
- Give new plants a season of extra water while roots establish — wind dries them faster than sun does.
Sandstone soil drains fast and holds little
Much of this area sits on Hawkesbury sandstone, so garden soil here tends to be sandy and free-draining, with few nutrients held in reserve. That is a starting point, not a problem.
- Compost and a steady mulch layer do more than fertiliser. They hold moisture and feed slowly.
- Mulch to roughly a hand's depth, kept clear of trunks and stems.
- Go easy on phosphorus around banksias, grevilleas and hakeas — they evolved in low-phosphorus soil and resent a standard all-purpose feed. Use a native blend.
A year in the garden
Ranges move with the seasons, so rather than a list that goes stale, here is the shape of a year: the rhythm we plant to ourselves.
- Spring · summer vegetables go in, and everything is growing and hungry.
- Summer · mulch and water deeply but less often, so roots follow the water down.
- Autumn · the best window for natives, trees and shrubs, settling before next summer.
- Winter · bare-rooted fruit trees arrive, and deciduous pruning gets done.

Where exactly are you?
224 Powderworks Rd, on the corner of Wilson Ave, Ingleside NSW 2101 — in the middle of Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Can you tell me if something is in stock before I drive out?
Yes, and we would rather you asked. Ranges move with the seasons, so what is on the bench changes week to week. Send an enquiry or call and we will check before you make the trip.
Do you really sell chickens?
We do — from young chicks through to laying hens, along with feed, hay and the practical gear to keep a backyard flock happy. Councils set their own rules on keeping poultry, so it is worth checking yours before you build the coop.
Do you do landscaping, or just sell plants?
Both. New Leaf Landscapes handles garden design, planting, construction and ongoing care — from a planting plan for one bed through to a whole backyard. We also run a smaller gardening round across the Northern Beaches for one-off tidy-ups and regular maintenance. Tell us the scope and we will come back to you.
How do I get a big load home?
We hire out a trailer, which suits mulch, soil and the larger plants that will not fit in a boot. It is $100 for a full day or $60 for a half day, and $120 if you want it loaded with organic soil. Worth booking ahead on a weekend.

Yes, and it is free. Bring photos of the spot, a rough plan, or just the problem, and the team will talk it through at the nursery. For larger work our garden team gives obligation-free advice and quotes.

The best way to understand New Leaf is to take a slow lap. Bring your questions, your garden wish list and a little room in the car — or borrow the trailer if the load is bigger than that.
Ingleside is still one of the rare undeveloped pockets on the beaches. You will pass horses and goats on the way in, and you are ten minutes from the water. There is a kiosk on site for coffee, tea and a cold drink.
